The results are in and, beginning in 2015, members of the new Staff Council will begin their term as the first elected representatives for staff at Georgia Tech.

“We are very fortunate to have had such a positive response to the idea of a Staff Council at Tech. From the information sessions conducted over the summer, to the nominations and elections this past fall, staff are very much eager to participate,” said Christie Stewart, associate director of Campus Recreation and vice chair of the Staff Council. “We could certainly not have done this without the support of Tech’s leadership as well as the greater community.”

As with the appointed Staff Council, this elected Staff Council is charged with serving as a conduit for views that represent the greater staff population and provide insight to the executive and senior leadership on how decisions regarding policies, procedures, and investments affect this segment of the campus community.

“The staff at Tech deserves a voice elected by their peers to help carry their message and have a positive impact on campus.” said Dwayne Palmer, lead information technology project manager in the Office of Information Technology and chair of the appointed Staff Council. “There is work to do moving forward and we all can and should participate – even if you are not an elected council member.  All staff members at Tech are encouraged to get involved and help make a difference.”

Currently, the Staff Council has formed the following committees through which they will make recommendations to Tech’s executive leadership:

  • Employee Engagement
  • Employee Health and Well-being
  • Campus Physical Environment
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Communications
