ForeverMissed

This remembrance of Elizabeth has been compiled by her colleagues and friends in the Institute Communications office at Georgia Tech.

Following a brief illness, our beloved friend and colleague, Elizabeth Campell, died at her Atlanta home. A loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Elizabeth will be remembered for her optimistic and sunny disposition, her keen intellect and unfailing curiosity, her hysterically dry sense of humor, and especially her warmth and kindness toward everyone she knew.

After graduating from Duke University with a degree in political science, Elizabeth initially joined the Georgia Tech family in 1989, serving as the staff assistant in the former Office of Publications. Elizabeth’s desire for new professional challenges led her to leave Tech after five years to pursue a master’s degree in public relations at the University of Georgia. After completing her master’s, she worked for two years at the Rountree Group, a well known Atlanta advertising and public relations agency. In 1998, Elizabeth returned to her Tech family as a media relations representative, and in 2007 transitioned into the newly created role of client manager.

With nearly 20 years of service at Georgia Tech, Elizabeth was very well known and loved throughout the campus. She worked with nearly all of the academic and administrative units at one time or another, and she was renowned for her positive attitude and “can-do” approach to helping her clients and colleagues. Elizabeth’s loss is felt across the entire campus, and we will always remember her dedication to the Institute and to her colleagues.

Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s husband, Kevin, their 10-year-old son, Mitchell, and her entire family.

Elizabeth and I worked together at Tech on the same team. After I left Tech, she and I were synchronized grocery shopping buddies! I think I ran into her more at our neighborhood Publix than the ICPA break room. We would sample the bakeries free cookies and catch up on each other lives. I miss her and say little prayers for her family whenever I grocery shop.

Every time I walk into the break room at work I turn and look at the door expecting Elizabeth to walk in to get her coffee. She always had something sweet to say. It still hurts knowing that we won't have the opportunity to swap stories about our kids or how it's too early to be up and at work. What a treasure she was for our work family. She is and will continue to be missed greatly.

Barry and I taught Elizabeth in Sunday School and watched her mature into an accomplished and loving young adult.
Our hearts are heavy as we know she will be missed by all the family and friends that she touched so warmly in her short time here.

Elizabeth was always special, a fine young girl who grew into such a lovely woman. The members of Ohev Zion Synagogue in Martinsville grieve with all of Elizabeth's loved ones at her passing.

Knowing her sisters Margaret and Miriam, her mom Romaine and dad ,my partner, Henry for many years, I can honestly say Elizabeth was part of a special Jewish family. She will be missed. Jo and my thoughts are with Henry, Maria, and the rest of the family. Written by Don Grayson.

We miss Elizabeth dearly...especially because of her smile, laugh and thoughtfulness. Also because of the guidance she provided our department thanks to her deep knowledge of campus and her clients. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. Her Georgia Tech family loves her.

We had the good fortune of working with Elizabeth on one of our projects in the ILE. Even though we only worked with her for a short period of time, she quickly became one of our favorite colleagues. She was such a sunny, kind, and extremely talented woman.
We will forever cherish the opportunity to have met her, and our thoughts are with her family during this time.

Elizabeth will be greatly missed on the Georgia Tech campus. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to share. I was here for her "first tour of duty" at Tech and was still here when she returned. We were all very happy she came back - it was like welcoming a family member back home.  She will be truly, truly missed.

Elizabeth was such a wonderful colleague. She was thoughtful, helpful, and insightful. I also enjoyed her quick wit -- and that wonderful laugh! Her legacy lives on, and she will be missed. Gone from this life, but never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this time of grief.

Elizabeth’s ability to find common ground with practically everyone was nothing short of incredible. I loved her kindness and curiosity, and looked forward to the occasional irreverent zinger that she would casually drop into the conversation – catching everyone by surprise – followed by her trademark laugh. Miss you so much, 'Harriet the Spy.'

What a special privilege to have watched Elizabeth blossom in the world. We worked together for over 20 years and during that time she moved seamlessly from young colleague, to friend, to office confidant, to giggles-in-chief, to Kevin's sweetheart, wife, and mother of her beloved Mitchell. Few people touch others in such a lasting way.

I'll remember Elizabeth for her kindness, laughter, and the joy she found in being a Mom. I was a colleague of hers for nearly 5 years, and I can't remember a time when I visited her office to ask for her advice that I didn't come away with the answer I needed to help with the task at hand and a funny or thoughtful story about Mitchell. My thoughts and prayers are with Elizabeth's family.

Elizabeth ... the world is a better place because she was here. She was so easy to be with and talk to. She used and shared her gifts, and she shined her own special light -- in her positive perspective, kindness, humor, intelligence, grace, poise -- which will continue to shine in the lives and hearts of those she touched.

Elizabeth was a very kind and easygoing person. I would stop by her office to talk about work, and would stay quite a while because we ended up not talking about work. She was very easy to talk to and laugh with and found humor in just about everything. There should be more people in the world like her. I think of Kevin, Mitchell, and her family everyday.

Elizabeth and I were "lunch buddies" at work. I've been at Georgia Tech for 15 months and for the past nine or so, probably not a week that went by that she and I didn't go out for lunch. Work Elizabeth was extremely competent, always professional, and unfailingly personable. Lunch Elizabeth was fun to be with and very easy to talk to. We shared a lot and I will miss her very much.

Elizabeth made Georgia Tech a better place just by her presence. Those of us who worked with her were touched by her humor, her professionalism and her "can-do" attitude. My hope is that her family, especially Kevin and Mitchell, will take comfort in the fact that she had a positive impact on everyone. We will ensure her legacy continues as she will always be remembered as a true treasure.

I feel so lucky to have worked with Elizabeth and miss her every day. She was knowledgeable, dedicated, and so reliable. I always loved to see what she came up with for the Halloween day I organize for work, and we would always talk about what Mitchell would be wearing each year. My heart breaks for the family, and for our work family, too.

Elizabeth was a warm and sweet person. She helped me get acclimated when I joined Georgia Tech and she was always helpful and there with a good story. My daughter had fun playing with her son, Mitchell, and my wife, Megan, and I had fun playing softball on the work team with her and her husband, Kevin. Our thoughts are with you in this time of grief.

It is hard to talk about Elizabeth in the past tense – she was taken away much too early. I grieve for her family and for the time she should have had with them to be with her son as he grows. She was such a respected colleague and one of the most authentic people I have known. I am thankful for the privilege to have worked with her. I will miss her deeply and remember her always.

Rest in Peace sweet Elizabeth! I will certainly miss you. Whenever I would pass her office I would see that smile and it would make me smile. Thanks for being the most positive co-worker any person could have. My prayers goes out to the family in this time of grief. You were an angel placed here at Tech so spread your wings....

Elizabeth was one of those rare people who was so authentically genuine that it calmed and encouraged all around her. She was always quick to not only ask- but to sincerely care- about how you were doing. I always left meetings or encounters with Elizabeth aspiring to be more like her; more caring, concerned, selfless. It was a true blessing to know her.

I can't think of one thing that Elizabeth didn't do well in her life as she wore the many hats of mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and professional to everyone she met. Down to earth, never wishy-washy, always with a firm grasp of what needed to be done, and how to do it with optimism, grace, humor, and wit. Her death reminds me to live life, to be kind, and remember what matters.

Elizabeth is one of the nicest and most sincere people I've ever known. I could always rely on her to ease my mind and share a laugh or story about anything. Every time we worked together or conversed, it made my day brighter. I will always remember these moments and will look back fondly about the short time we had together to be friends and colleagues.

Elizabeth reached out to me when I first joined Tech four years ago. She was a wealth of information on all things Georgia Tech, knew just about everyone, was liked and respected, and was the consummate professional. Beyond that, she was a great friend. I’ll miss her wit and wisdom. There are people who come along in our lives who are unforgettable. That was Elizabeth.
