Volunteer for Tech Treasure during Move-Out

Students are wanted to help others donate items during move-out, rather than throwing them away.

Not all items thrown away during move-out are trash.

Tech Treasure, an initiative through the Student Government Association, gives students the opportunity to donate unwanted items that might otherwise be thrown away. In partnership with Goodwill, donation bins will be conveniently placed across campus during finals week, in hopes that students will choose to donate instead of discard.

Volunteers are needed during move-out to help direct students to the Goodwill donation bins. Student volunteers will be responsible for informing students about Tech Treasure and making sure reusable goods such as furniture, appliances, and clothing do not get thrown away. In exchange for volunteering, students will receive free food, a Goodwill gift card, and a T-shirt. Additionally, students who volunteer for the minimum time commitment of two hours will be exempt from the 24-hour move-out rule.

Students interested in volunteering should fill out the online registration form. Volunteer time slots are available from Wednesday, April 29, to Saturday, May 2, from noon to 7 p.m.

The Tech Treasure program began in 2014 with a group of students in the Grand Challenges program who recognized the need to save and donate reusable items that were being discarded.
