Classes Will Not Meet Wednesday Before Thanksgiving

Tech students have no classes the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, one of several changes to the Academic Calendar being implemented over the course of two years.

Though campus will remain open on Wednesday, Nov. 25, no classes will meet. Georgia Tech is officially closed Nov. 26 and 27. Normal operations and class schedules will resume Monday, Nov. 30.

Starting spring 2016, Dead Week and Final Exam schedules will also change. Dead Week will be restructured with two days of Final Instructional Class Days on Monday and Tuesday, followed by a day and a half reading period. The first final will be administered that Thursday afternoon, with exams continuing through the following Thursday. The exam schedule will be broken up by the weekend and an additional half-day reading period on Tuesday, allowing for more study opportunities for students between exams. The Friday after finals officially end will be used for exam conflicts.

The spring 2016 semester will begin Monday, Jan. 11, as dictated by recent changes that instruct the spring term to begin no earlier than the second Monday of January.  

Changes to the Academic Calendar came from a task force proposal drafted in January 2015. The group of students, faculty, and staff made recommendations based on previous committees, white papers, and other University System of Georgia calendars.
