Fraternity Served with Interim Suspension for Conduct Violations

Georgia Tech’s Division of Student Affairs has informed the Alpha Rho chapter of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity that it has been placed on interim suspension, effective immediately, pending the completion of an investigation into alleged violations of the Institute’s student code of conduct. The national office for Phi Kappa Tau is in agreement with Tech’s decision to issue the suspension.

In addition, two students have been suspended from Georgia Tech, also pending the outcome of the investigation. Both students are members of Phi Kappa Tau.

During a suspension, a chapter ceases any organizational activities, including all planned functions at its campus residence. The investigation, assigned to the Dean of Students’ Office of Student Integrity, is ongoing.

This chapter was sanctioned last fall, when the Interfraternity Council (IFC) determined that Phi Kappa Tau violated the fraternal code of conduct, resulting in social probation through May 4, 2014. Under the terms of social probation, the chapter could still recruit members, hold meetings and participate in intramurals and service events, but was prohibited from hosting, co-hosting or participating in social events.
