The Sweetest Scavenger Hunt

Their love story started at Georgia Tech, and this creative marriage proposal included all the steps along the way.
When Jayce decided it was time to pop the big question, there was no doubt he wanted the proposal to be uniquely Georgia Tech. He went to the Invention Studio and laser-cut a custom storybook-shaped box with five locks.

Georgia Tech has figured into almost every step of Jayce and Victoria’s young love story. Now they are planning to spend the rest of their lives together.

Jayce Delker first met Victoria Doris at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM). He was studying mechanical engineering, and she was a public policy major. The Tech campus provided countless options for their first date. Which one did they choose?

“We went to the Campus Recreation Center for swing dance class,” Victoria recalls.

Love blossomed. Now Jayce is completing that mechanical engineering degree. Victoria has graduated, and is pursuing a master’s in public policy here at Georgia Tech.

When Jayce decided it was time to pop the big question, there was no doubt he wanted the proposal to be uniquely Georgia Tech. He went to the Flowers Invention Studio and laser-cut a custom storybook-shaped box with five locks, and then set in motion a scavenger hunt meant especially for his sweetheart.

Victoria got an email that she had something to pick up at the President’s Office in the Carnegie Building, the heart of Georgia Tech’s Old Campus. That beautiful Art Deco-themed book was there, with locks needing to be opened — by keys placed at all of the places that represented milestones in their relationship.

“There was a set of clues that set me on my search,” Victoria says.

A single key at the the BCM where they first met. A clue for the CRC, site of their first date. The third key was at the Invention Studio, where Victoria and Jayce shared their first kiss. The next key was at the Flag Building, where they said “I love you” for the first time

Jayce was waiting at Tech Tower with the final key. Victoria opened the box and found her engagement ring inside. She said yes, of course.

“It’s the journey of our love story,” Jayce explains. “We met here and grew a lot since we’ve been here.”

The couple has set an August date for their wedding in Peachtree City, Georgia.

“I was so impressed. He put so much work into this and designed this himself,” says Victoria.

According to Jayce, the unique proposal not only represents their love story, but their journey at Georgia Tech as well.

“We love coming up with ideas and making things together. Georgia Tech has been a place where we can dream up crazy ideas,” he says.

Now these two, crazy for each other, are preparing for a lifetime together, and Tech will always be a part of their love story.
